THE state Health Department is eyeing to have a regionalised hospital service system that would optimise the accessibility to its services.

THE state government has proposed an allocation of RM100 million in 2017 to implement critical drain improvement works.
According to Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, these flood mitigation projects will be implemented by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) and the local authorities.
“Apart from this, as an urgent and part of the long term solution to mitigate flash flooding problem that had occurred in Kuching this year, the state government has recently approved funding amounting to RM3.5 million and RM6.9 million for implementation of drainage outlet improvement works at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) and Padang Merdeka respectively....

KUCHING: Sarawak needs its own regional blood centre as it had recorded the biggest number of donors in the country in the past 14 years.
According to Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian, the availability of such a centre will facilitate better coordination in creating blood products with maximum usage and better shelf life.

ALL eight motions filed by six members of the august House were dismissed by State Legislative Assembly (DUN) speaker Datuk Amar Mohd Asfia Awang Nassar during the 18th sitting of the state legislature yesterday.
Asfia ruled that the subject matters and issues raised in the motions of See Chee How (PKR-Batu Lintang), Chong Chieng Jen (DAP-Kota Sentosa) and Baru Bian (PKR-Ba Kelalan) were ‘in pari materia’ with the statement made by Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing under Standing Order 11(1)(i) read together with Standing Order 22. The Latin term ‘in pari materia’ in English means “in the same manner” or on the same subject relating to the same manner, he said....

KUCHING: Eighteen raids against illegal gambling activities were conducted by police across nine districts in the state last week.
State CID chief Datuk Dev Kumar said the activities included unauthorised sale of four-digit (4D) forecast numbers, illegal online gambling and cock-fighting. The statewide operation, running from Nov 12 to 19, was conducted by CID personnel from the state police headquarters together with police personnel from the districts....

KUCHING: Local councils have been reminded of their roles as front-liners for the government.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem said as the third tier of government, councils are the closest to the people on the ground and must be efficient and professional.

KUCHING: Samarahan District Council (SDC) is elevated into a municipal council for many good reasons, says Minister of Local Government Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian.
He said Kota Samarahan qualified for the elevation because it had all the ingredients needed to be upgraded into a municipal council.

KUCHING: The federal government has endorsed the upgrading of Samarahan District Council (SDC) to Kota Samarahan Municipal Council (KSMC) as the population of Samarahan has reached 130,000 and the council has a minimum revenue reserve of RM20 million.
This was revealed by SDC chairman Dato Peter Minos who also disclosed that he has been appointed KSMC chairman and that upon its upgrading the council will get more staff and fund.
“ The reason SDC is upgraded to KSMC is Kota Samarahan is an important ‘education centre’ with University of Sarawak (Unimas) and University Teknologi Mara (UiTM)around, besides one teaching institute, the National Institute of Public Administration (Intan) and a technical institute.”...
