MARUDI: Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil has called on the people to be patient with the progress on the Miri-Marudi Road which is now in a bad condition due to upgrading works.

He said the contractors were doing their best to complete the works in good time.

“I know each of us want the road to be completed fast. The works are in progress. It is better to wait for another few months rather than suffer like during the last 20 years. I myself regularly use this road and even during the night after attending a function in Marudi,” he told the more than 500 people from Lower Bakong Zone attending the ‘Leaders with the People’ session at Rumah Sayun Galan, Sg Arang A in Bakong last Saturday.

On another matter, the Marudi assemblyman said the government was making every effort to resolve NCR land issues.

Penguang announced government grants of RM10,000 for JKKK Rumah Sayun, RM5,000 for Women’s Bureau of Rh Sayun, RM5,000 for JKKK Rumah Ansi, RM10,000 for SK Sg Arang, RM5,000 for Women’s Bureau of Rumah Jelaping, RM5,000 for Women’s Bureau of Rumah Nyegang and RM5,000 for Women’s Bureau of Rumah Giling.

Besides the Miri-Marudi road upgrading project costing RM77.4 million, he announced that the new projects that will be implemented in Marudi town are Marudi waterfront at a cost of RM23 million, upgrading of Fort Hose (RM3.5 million), retaining wall of Sungai Baram (RM17.3 million) and Mini Industrial Estate near the Mini Stadium (RM11 million).

The function was also attended by political secretary to the chief minister Alexander Asing, Pemanca Wilson Siang Lim, Datin Monica Ukong Jaya and Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai.
