Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian
SIBU: Local Government Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian yesterday reminded Community Police of their role as the eyes and ears of the local authority.
He said their role is not only to assist the police but also to channel the voice of the people to the local authority.
Speaking when officiating at the launching of Sibu Jaya Community Police, he said bringing community problems to the local authority will help the latter to address the problems promptly.
The function was organised by the Sibu Rural District Council.
Dr Sim reiterated that the council needed to be informed of the various community problems in its effort to create a safe and comfortable living environment in Sibu Jaya.
He also urged residents of the satellite town to join the Community Police to consolidate its strength.
He urged Community Police to establish a close rapport with the police.
SRDC chairman Sempurai Petrus Ngelai, who also spoke, said his council was contemplating spreading the wings of the Community Police to all 26 zones under SRDC’s jurisdiction.
