Avoid divisive politics that cause the people to suffer — Penguang

MARUDI: The politics of division should be avoided as the people will always lose out.

Assistant Minister of Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil said only the irresponsible play on negative sentiments for political gain.

“For example, that has happened in the Marudi area, especially in Bakong before this where many longhouses were split. From one longhouse they were split into seven longhouses, and there is even one longhouse with two headmen. This is because of unhealthy politics,” he said during the launching of the 1Malaysia Community programme at Kampung Pemindahan on Monday.

He stressed that unity is vital for the country’s political stability, security and economic growth.

“Those successful nations that maintain unity can achieve improvements very easily. The ones that are united are not easily influenced by the propaganda of those who are not responsible,” he said.

The Marudi assemblyman added that unity and the spirit of cooperation are vital to improve quality of life for the people.

“So we must be united in every aspect without thinking about religion, race, or politics,” he said.

Penguang also announced grants totalling RM80,000 and presented grant cheques totalling RM53,000 for various organisations.
