MARUDI: Assistant Minister for Local Government Datu Dr Penguang Manggil has urged longhouses to form neighbourhood committees (KRTs) in order to foster unity and cooperation among the rural villagers.

Penguang, who is also Marudi assemblyman, made the call during ‘Leader with the People’ sessions at Rumah Ali Nyalu, Sungai Sebukut,Bakong and Rumah Agnes Ngarega, Long Lapok last Saturday.

He said the formation of KRTs could foster the spirit of neighbourliness, unity and co-operation among the villagers through various activities and sharing of facilities such as community hall, futsal court, football field and other facilities. Moreover, the KRT members could run their safety patrol activities to ensure safety in their villages.

Penguang also assured the Penan community in Sungai Lapok of the government’s commitment in providing them with good infrastructure facilities so that they would not be left out of mainstream development.

At the function, Penguang presented MRP grants to the security and development committee (JKKK) of Rumah Agnes Ngarega (RM10,000), Women Bureau Rumah Ali (RM5,000), Woman Bureau Rumah Agnes Ngarega (RM5,000), Women Bureau Rumah Larek Mat (RM5,000), Women Bureau Rumah Peberi (RM5,000) and Women Bureau Rumah Wen (RM5,000).

Among those present were his wife Datin Monica Ukong Jaya, political secretary to the Chief Minister Alexander Asing, Beluru District officer Mohd Rashdan Hazemi, Marudi District Council chairman Edward Mendai and local community leaders.
